This is the House that Queerness Built
Her Grace, The Duchess, Presents: The Royal Cut
The Royal Cut is a week-long filmmaking challenge hosted by Her Grace, the Duchess, designed to inspire and uplift queer filmmakers — both aspiring and experienced — as they craft bold, brilliant short films.
Participants will have 8 days to complete a film no longer than five minutes. The ideal timeline is as follows:
5 days to gather your creative court — assemble your crew, write your script, secure your locations — after receiving your Royal Relic, a required element to include.
48 hours to film.
24 hours to edit.
Of course, how you use your time is up to you. The only rule? Complete your vision within the royal decree of eight days.
Applications will open at the end of September, but if you’d like to be among the first to know, add yourself to Her Grace’s interest list and receive word as soon as the portal opens.
The challenge will unfold in October, just in time for Halloween — offering a wealth of atmospheric decor, seasonal backdrops, and spooky ambiance for your cinematic canvas.
If you’d like to volunteer for our final screening event, please send us a message. We’d love to have you as part of the Realm.
🎬✨ Long live queer cinema. Long live the storytellers. ✨
All entrants who complete their films within the allotted time will have their work honored with a special screening at the historic and iconic Plaza Theatre on Tuesday, November 11th at 7:00 PM.
This celebratory evening will include a red carpet photo opportunity for cast and crew, and the chance to experience your film on the big screen — surrounded by friends, family, and fellow creators.
It is not only a screening — it is a moment of recognition, a night of joy, and a gathering of the realm to uplift queer cinematic voices.
Join us for a dazzling evening of cinematic brilliance as the Académie Royale Prismatique proudly presents a curated screening of completed works from The Royal Cut.
